SVIN24 Annual Meeting - November 20-22, 2024

Faculty Resources

Thank you for serving as faculty for the SVIN 2024 Annual Meeting!

This site is designed to provide you all the information you need about your speaking engagement, deadlines, and ways to promote your session.

Please check back, as more information will be added as we get closer to the meeting.

General Guidelines:

SVIN requires that all of its speakers and moderators comply with the ACCME Standards of Commercial Support of CME. Disclose any RELEVANT financial interest or relationship that you and/or your spouse may have with any commercial supporter of the activity or the manufacturer(s) of any commercial interest that is discussed as part of your session. ACCME definition of relevant relationship: relationships with a commercial interest (rights, consulting fee, honoraria, ownership in stock, etc.) IF the products or services of the commercial interest are related to the content of the educational activity that you are presenting.

All materials for invited sessions must be uploaded through the SVIN Portal (coming soon).
If you need assistance with your login username/password or upload, please contact our SVIN Support Team at SVIN@support.ctimeetingtech.com.

Speaker Guidelines:

  • All presenters are required to verbally state and indicate in writing on their first slide whether they have any relevant disclosures at the beginning of each presentation.
  • Design a presentation that is independent, objective, scientifically rigorous, balanced and free of bias.
    • Assure that patient care recommendations are acceptable to the medical community and ensure that you do not recommend any unscientific modalities or those not supported by evidenced based sources.Assure that scientific studies utilized or referenced in your presentation are from sources acceptable to the scientific and medical community.
    • It is understood that presentations must give a balanced view of therapeutic options. Faculty use of generic names will contribute to this impartiality. If trade names are used, those of several companies should be used rather than only that of a single supporting company. Speakers should make every effort to ensure that data regarding the company’s products (or competing products) are objectively selected and presented, with balanced discussion of prevailing information on the product(s) and/or alternative treatments.
    • When an unlabeled use of a commercial product, or an investigational use not yet approved for any purpose, is discussed during an educational activity, the accredited sponsor shall require the speaker to disclose that the product is not labeled for the use under discussion or that the product is still investigational.
  • Slide Preparation:
    • First slide MUST be the financial disclosure slide.
    • Slides should be no more than 7 lines.
    • Use fonts that are large enough to be legible from the back of room.
    • Colors should make viewing easier (avoid light fonts and dark slides).
    • Duplicate the content slides in the slide template to add additional content, ensuring consistent formatting across all slides.
    • Add abbreviated citations on each relevant slide (author, year), with a complete APA style reference list on the last slide.
    • All videos must be embedded into the presentation to play properly.
    • All graphics used in the presentation that you do not own must be cited and receive copyright permission for use.
    • Slides will NOT contain any patient names or identifying information.
    • Prior to the session, speakers are urged to review their slides for material that may be offensive to some of our members on the basis of gender, body images, group caricatures or grammatical errors. NO OFFENSIVE MATERIAL WILL BE TOLERATED.
  • Please ensure you do not go over on time. Speakers will be given a two-minute warning prior to the scheduled end of their presentation, and they are expected to conclude without exceeding more than one minute of overtime.
  • Submit 3 CME questions and answer key for the Pre/Post-Test in the SVIN Portal (coming soon).
    • Questions should be true/false or multiple choice with 3 to 4 answer choices and only one correct answer.
    • Avoid questions written as a negative, all of the above answers, easy to guess answers and overly complex answer choices.
    • If you have multiple presentations, please submit 3 CME questions for each talk.

Moderator Guidelines:

  • If you are moderating a session, have discrete questions that can be addressed by the panel. Make the session interactive and lively. Encourage audience participation.
  • As a moderator, you have a right to call attention to situations where you perceive commercial bias and question it. For example, if a speaker did not declare a bias and presents material you perceive as having commercial bias you can comment at the conclusion of that talk that SVIN had no prior knowledge of this bias. In addition, you should be prepared to stop audience members from presenting commercial material.
  • Begin and end the meeting session on time.
  • Announce the speaker’s name, institution, and the title of the talk.
  • Time the speakers and give a warning by lights or signify “time to summarize please” at the end of the speaker’s allotted time. Presentations will be stopped if over by more than 60 seconds.
  • If there is a series of platform abstract sessions, ask for questions. If there is no question, and if the moderator feels it is appropriate, have at least one question prepared ahead of time to ask the speaker.
  • Be sure all discussants use the microphone.
  • If there are problems with the meeting room, alert a SVIN staff member.
  • There will be a moderator computer screen to view the questions submitted by the audience. Please be sure to check for questions and ask presenters accordingly.
  • At the question-and-answer portion of the session, ask that the participants come to the podium. Be sure there are enough chairs and microphones.
  • If there is inappropriate discussion or advertising, moderators should halt that type of discussion.
  • Remind the attendees to fill out their critiques about the session—announce this at the beginning and end of the session.
