Delineating the Diagnosis: ILR Implantation Workshop

Atrial fibrillation is found in a substantial share of initially cryptogenic strokes but only in patients who are monitored long enough, implantable loop recorders close this gap. Notably, the Vascular neurologists who know these patients best are rarely the ones placing the devices, risking fragmenting care and inviting the opportunity for lapses in continuity of care. 

The 4th annual SVIN ILR workshop was built to change that. Over two hours, guided by faculty from vascular neurology and cardiology, participants move from a brief review of evidence and panel discussion, through to a simulated implantation and proctor-supported practice on task-trainer models. The program goal is for participants to leave empowered with the procedure, documentation, and the coding needed to begin the process of starting a program of their own. 

Target Audience: This workshop is open to anyone interested in gaining experience in loop recorders. Whether you're an advanced practice provider, a resident with a strong interest in the field, a fellow seeking to deepen your knowledge, or an attending physician aiming to refine your skills — all are welcome.  This workshop can help you diversify your practice and skills.

The SLICE Workshop is making its comeback at the SVIN 2026 Annual Meeting. Designed for small groups, this high-impact experience focuses on both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke treatments, using real-life patient scenarios and advanced flow models.

Target Audience: This workshop is designed to accommodate all levels of expertise, from novice operators to experienced proceduralists. Residents with a strong interest in neurointerventional surgery are highly encouraged to apply.

AI-Assisted Python Coding for Data Analysis, Visualization, and Financial Intelligence

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to AI-assisted Python workflows for clinical and research data. Using large language models (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) as coding copilots, attendees will learn to import and clean datasets, generate publication-quality visualizations, run exploratory and statistical analyses, and extract financial and operational intelligence relevant to practice and research settings — all without requiring prior Python experience. The session blends short demonstrations with guided, live coding exercises so participants leave with a working notebook they can adapt to their own data.

Attendees are required to bring their own laptop.

Target Audience: This workshop is open to anyone interested in artificial intelligence (AI), regardless of experience level. Attendees may include students, postdoctoral researchers, residents, fellows, physicians, healthcare professionals, research staff, administrators, and other individuals seeking to learn about AI and its applications. Whether you are new to AI or looking to expand your knowledge, all are welcome to participate.

Presented by: Lina Shehadeh, PhD, FAHA

Dr. Lina Shehadeh, PhD, FAHA, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, with her laboratory located at the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute, and a Research Health Scientist at the Miami VA Medical Center. She is also the Founder of Empower AI Leaders LLC, an AI literacy and training venture dedicated to building practical AI fluency across healthcare, education, and industry.  

Dr. Shehadeh leads an active program of AI training workshops delivered nationally and internationally, reaching over 1000 attendances and 400+ unique participants across more than 20 departments and institutions to date. Her academic work sits at the intersection of AI and biomedical research and education, developing no-code and AI-assisted approaches to democratize quality educational content creation, research workflows, and collaborative learning. She is also active in biomedical education research with a focus on integrating compassion and cultural competence into clinical training. 

Dr. Shehadeh's laboratory (shehadehlab.com), funded by NIH, AHA, the Miami Heart Institute, and the VA, investigates the role of metabolic switching in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) and sudden cardiac death. Her team also studies COVID-induced myocarditis and endothelial and immunogenic dysfunction in Long COVID. Drawing on her expertise in computational biology, data mining, and machine learning (MIT Certificate in Data Mining and Machine Learning), she integrates large genomic datasets to identify candidate genes with therapeutic potential.

Advanced Carotid Ultrasound Course (pre-requiste courses & separate registration required)

SVIN ultrasound

The Advanced Carotid Ultrasound Course is a specialized educational course offered in conjunction with the Annual Meeting. Participation requires pre-registration and completion of required coursework and activities prior to arriving onsite. Designed to provide hands-on learning and practical skill development, this course includes both pre-meeting educational components and in-person instruction during the Annual Meeting.
