Dr. Andrew Weinberg is a clinical cardiologist who has been practicing in Syracuse for the past 15 years. He is a New Jersey native. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Colgate University in 2001. He completed his medical school training at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2001 to 2005, Internal Medicine residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City from 2005 to 2008 and General Cardiology fellowship at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center from 2008 to 2011.

He joined Cardiovascular Group of Syracuse in July 2011. He practices clinical cardiology seeing patients in the Liverpool and Fayetteville outpatient locations. He spent the first 8 years of his career at St. Joseph’s Hospital. His group joined Upstate in September 2019 and now actively works at Upstate University and Community Hospital.

Dr. Weinberg is passionate about medical education. He has served as a clinical preceptor since he started practice. He currently serves as a preceptor for the St. Joseph’s Family Medicine residency, as well as the Lemoyne College NP/PA and the Upstate PA programs. He works with all levels of Upstate medical students. He is a preceptor in the Longitudinal Clinical Program for 1st year Upstate medical students and is the Cardiology Club advisor for the 2nd year medical students. He teaches 3rd and 4th year medical students on inpatient cardiology clinical rotations. He teaches the Internal Medicine residents both in his offices and in the inpatient setting. He has served as the Program Director of the Cardiovascular Disease fellowship and is the current Associate Program Director. In addition, he is also the Medical Director of the Vascular Lab for the Upstate Cardiovascular Group.

He has also taken the lead in regard to implantable cardiac monitor placement training for the Cryptogenic Stroke program. He has trained cardiologists/cardiology advanced practice providers, stroke neurologists/advanced practice providers as well as advanced practice providers/faculty in the Hospital Medicine division. Upstate is currently the only program to have a multidisciplinary program spanning 3 distinct specialties. He was invited to speak/teach at the 2025 SVIN program and is looking forward to involvement again this year!

Hesham E. Masoud, MD, MSc, is a board-certified Vascular and Interventional Neurologist and Associate Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Radiology at SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he also serves as Executive Director of the Upstate Simulation Center and Program Director for the Vascular neurology fellowship. After graduating from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt he completed neurology residency and served as Chief Resident at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, followed by fellowships in Vascular Neurology and Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology at Boston Medical Center / Boston University School of Medicine. He is certified in Neurology, Vascular Neurology, Comprehensive Neurosonology and is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE, Society for Simulation in Healthcare, 2022).

At Upstate he has previously served as Associate Program Director for the Neurology Residency, Medical Director of the Upstate TeleStroke Network, and Director of the Upstate Stroke Clinic. He designed and has facilitated an acute stroke simulation program since 2014, first at Boston University and then at Upstate, authoring its curriculum, debriefing materials, and assessment tools for neurology and emergency medicine residents, nurse practitioners, and students. He conceived and directs the Stroke NeuroIntervention neurology residency pathway and established the Simulation Center's Microcredential in Simulation for Healthcare Education for teaching faculty.

A longstanding member of SVIN with service including Education and Practice Standards Committees, he has published and presented simulation scholarship, including virtual-reality stroke-code training, simulation-based resident performance improvement, and remote audiovisual neurointerventional instruction at SVIN, ISC, AAN, and IMSH. He holds an MSc in Applied Business Analytics (Boston University, 2024).

Dr. Lina Shehadeh, PhD, FAHA, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, with her laboratory located at the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute, and a Research Health Scientist at the Miami VA Medical Center. She is also the Founder of Empower AI Leaders LLC, an AI literacy and training venture dedicated to building practical AI fluency across healthcare, education, and industry.  

Dr. Shehadeh leads an active program of AI training workshops delivered nationally and internationally, reaching over 1000 attendances and 400+ unique participants across more than 20 departments and institutions to date. Her academic work sits at the intersection of AI and biomedical research and education, developing no-code and AI-assisted approaches to democratize quality educational content creation, research workflows, and collaborative learning. She is also active in biomedical education research with a focus on integrating compassion and cultural competence into clinical training. 

Dr. Shehadeh's laboratory (shehadehlab.com), funded by NIH, AHA, the Miami Heart Institute, and the VA, investigates the role of metabolic switching in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) and sudden cardiac death. Her team also studies COVID-induced myocarditis and endothelial and immunogenic dysfunction in Long COVID. Drawing on her expertise in computational biology, data mining, and machine learning (MIT Certificate in Data Mining and Machine Learning), she integrates large genomic datasets to identify candidate genes with therapeutic potential.
