The Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology has submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding a proposed decision that would increase the number of Medicare patients eligible for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTO) of the carotid artery with concurrent stenting. Currently, only patients deemed to be at high risk of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) are eligible for this procedure; the proposed rule expands that eligibility to average risk patients.
