President's Message: April 2026 Pulse

Posted: 04/15/2026

Dear SVIN Members,

As we move into April, I am energized by the continued momentum of our society. SVIN continues to grow not only as a scientific and educational home for vascular neurologist and neurointerventionalist, but also as a trusted voice for multidisciplinary stroke care, innovation, and collaboration across the globe.

Our Financial Health

I am pleased to report that SVIN remains on strong financial footing. Through careful stewardship by our Board and the continued support of our membership, we are well positioned to invest in the priorities that matter most: high-quality education, research, trainee development, and advocacy for our subspecialty. This stability allows us to plan with confidence and to continue building a sustainable future for our society.

Supporting Our Colleagues in Greece and Egypt

This month, I also want to highlight an important dimension of SVIN’s mission: supporting colleagues around the world who are working to strengthen multidisciplinary stroke and neurointerventional care.

In Greece, SVIN has lent its voice in support of colleagues advocating for fair, rigorous training pathways that allow properly trained neurologists to participate in neurointerventional training. Our position is grounded in a principle that has shaped the growth of this field internationally: patient access and patient safety are best advanced not by rigid specialty boundaries, but by high standards, structured training, and strong multidisciplinary collaboration. As demand for mechanical thrombectomy and other neuroendovascular procedures continues to grow, expanding training opportunities for qualified physicians is essential to meeting unmet needs and improving timely access to life-saving care.

In Egypt, SVIN, though its international initiative Mission Thrombectomy, is working with national leaders and professional partners to support the development of structured training programs, curriculum benchmarking, educational exchange, and systems-level growth in thrombectomy care. These efforts reflect SVIN’s broader commitment to global partnership, capacity building, and the responsible growth of neurointerventional care in ways that are rigorous, sustainable, and centered on patients.

These efforts in Greece and Egypt reflect who we are as a society: a community committed not only to scientific advancement, but also to building sustainable pathways that improve access, strengthen training, and ultimately serve patients around the world.
