| SVIN Stenting Registry Launched |
The SER is the first endovascular registry having vascular and interventional neurologists on its executive committee. The training of this group provides an excellent opportunity for clinical and interventional correlation. The committee is part of the society of vascular and interventional neurology (SVIN) and has the support of 40 active members and 90 junior members who are distributed across over 15 US medical centers. This group provides the resources for a successful registry. The data from this registry will guide the creation of standards for procedures, clinical indications, techniques, morphological and imaging charachterization of various disease pathologies, as well as standards for grading the technical outcome and clinical outcome following the endovascular procedures. In addition to the intrinsic value and multiple publications that will result from these studies, they will also allow for future grants and funding of prospective registries. Finally, the data will provide the basis for future randomized controlled trials and define the rationale, sub-groups with worst outcomes to target for initial studies, outcome rates (which will determine sample size and number of centers needed for RCT’s), and safety and failure rates of currently used neuroendovascular therapies.
The activities of the network will also provide strong evidence for peer-reviewed funding agencies, of our ability to work together in conducting multi-center studies, and demonstrate the feasibility of collaborative research in neurointerventional field. The long-term impact of this initiative will be realized in terms of the development of evidence-based therapies, which will improve the outcomes following interventional stroke therapy.
